Daemon will do anything to get Katy back.
After the successful but disastrous raid on Mount Weather, he’s facing the impossible. Katy is gone. Taken. Everything becomes about finding her. Taking out anyone who stands in his way? Done. Burning down the whole world to save her? Gladly. Exposing his alien race to the world? With pleasure.
All Katy can do is survive.
Surrounded by enemies, the only way she can come out of this is to adapt. After all, there are sides of Daedalus that don’t seem entirely crazy, but the group’s goals are frightening and the truths they speak even more disturbing. Who are the real bad guys? Daedalus? Mankind? Or the Luxen?
Together, they can face anything.
But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on?
And will they even be together?
[My Review with spoilers]
Ever since Katy is taken by the DOD during their rescue mission in the previous book, Daemon is freaking out. He blames himself for letting it happen and he’s scared out of his mind for her. Their love is so pure and unconditional that I spent half the book feeling jealous of Katy even though she and Daemon definitely deserve each other. Just as impressive is how their relationship manages to survive all the consequences of being “guests” of the DOD.
The plot is by far the most interesting in this book because everything really comes together. In fact, the author even goes ahead and introduces some new characters and a whole new species!! As much as I’d love to rant about them, I think it would be best if you just read the book yourself and found out. There’s use of suspense and foreshadowing but it’s not overdone (which is a relief because after a while I become impatient!). I like how the actions of each character remain true to their personality. They’re projected very realistically and it’s easy to imagine meeting Dawson or Katy in person.
One of my favorite characters in this book is Katy because of how resilient and strong she is. After everything she has endured, she still keeps it together (with help from Daemon of-course) and I was quick to feel sympathy for her.
My other favorite character is Archer. He’s an origin (a cooler but in some ways scarier version of the Luxen). He can hear your thoughts and also has some wicked ass-kicking powers at his disposal. And after working for the DOD for so long, he’s finally able to escape with Daemon and Katy.
The ending of the book is even more of a jaw-dropper. A bunch of Luxen just coming out of nowhere? Wow. Even I didn’t think the author would go that far but she did and I’m pretty sure the last book will be just as if not more amazing!
Needless to say, I recommend this book! Just go read it already!!
