Mini-Book Review: The Revenge of Seven by Pittacus Lore (Lorien Legacies #5)

Goodreads Blurb

The worst was supposed to be over. We were reunited after a decade apart. We were discovering the truth of our past. We were training and getting stronger every day. We were even happy…

We never imagined the Mogodorians could turn one of our own against us. We were fools for trusting Five. And now Eight is lost forever. I would do anything to bring him back, but that’s impossible. Instead, I will do whatever it takes to destroy every last one of them.

I’ve spent my entire life hiding from them, and they’ve stolen everything away from me. But that stops now. We’re going to take the battle to them. We have a new ally who knows their weaknesses. And I finally have the power to fight back.

They caught Number One in Malaysia.

Number Two in England.

Number Three in Kenya.

And Number Eight in Florida.

They killed them all.

I am Number Seven.

I will make them pay.

My Review

Plot

It’s been over a year since I last read the 4th book in the Lorien Legacies so when I started reading The Revenge of Seven, I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what had already happened and which character’s viewpoint the chapters were from. This is why I felt like Pittacus Lore was not giving the reader enough background on previous events so that we can easily pick up this book and go, “okay! I get what’s happening and why it’s happening!”

In terms of romance, there was barely any significance placed on the relationships that some of the characters had formed. This may have been intended as an “they have better things to do than make-out with their girlfriend!” But I felt that, that left this book too focused on the action. Events were happening in quick succession and there weren’t too many “quiet moments” in the book where they reflected or something! Therefore, the story felt rather rushed.

Characters

The author didn’t delve too much into the characters. I remember really getting to know the characters in the previous books but in this book it seemed almost like there was nothing new to discover about the characters. This disappointed me because I had been hoping to get to know the characters better!

Would I recommend this book?

Yes! It was an enjoyable read with an engaging plot.
