The second book in the VIRTUAL ARCANA series.
The series starts with book 0: The Fool.
Mysterious cards keep appearing in Kelsey’s life, stirring up questions and forcing her to keep secrets from her sister, Keekee.
Triggered by Kelsey’s fear and Keekee’s worry, the twins become bright blips on their tyrannical government’s radar.
Xander’s magic seems to be their only chance at escaping a dangerous confrontation, but is Kelsey willing to break multiple laws and finally step into Xander’s illegal world of virtual reality?

My Review

After reading the The Fool which is the precursor to this book, I was instantly hooked to the series. I immediately began reading this book and finished it in an hour. The world building, in this book, is beautifully done. I can easily imagine living in this restrictive society where even caffeine intake   is monitored and tracked. Despite the restrictiveness, its also got some pretty cool technology.

Although the book is short, the characters have a lot of depth to them. Everything from their behavior to their thoughts reflects their beliefs and values. Keekee, the sister of the main character, is addicted to Virtual Reality gaming… The only problem is that VR gaming is illegal. Kesley, the main character, is a lot like me. I felt like I was connecting to a fellow bookworm when I starting reading the story.

Would I recommend it? Yes! This is a fresh (sci-fi) dystopian series that is really fun to read!
