Mini-Book Review: The Young Elites by Marie Lu

Goodreads Blurb:

I am tired of being used, hurt, and cast aside.
Adelina Amouteru is a survivor of the blood fever. A decade ago, the deadly illness swept through her nation. Most of the infected perished, while many of the children who survived were left with strange markings. Adelina’s black hair turned silver, her lashes went pale, and now she has only a jagged scar where her left eye once was. Her cruel father believes she is a malfetto, an abomination, ruining their family’s good name and standing in the way of their fortune. But some of the fever’s survivors are rumored to possess more than just scars—they are believed to have mysterious and powerful gifts, and though their identities remain secret, they have come to be called the Young Elites.
Teren Santoro works for the king. As Leader of the Inquisition Axis, it is his job to seek out the Young Elites, to destroy them before they destroy the nation. He believes the Young Elites to be dangerous and vengeful, but it’s Teren who may possess the darkest secret of all.
Enzo Valenciano is a member of the Dagger Society. This secret sect of Young Elites seeks out others like them before the Inquisition Axis can. But when the Daggers find Adelina, they discover someone with powers like they’ve never seen.
Adelina wants to believe Enzo is on her side, and that Teren is the true enemy. But the lives of these three will collide in unexpected ways, as each fights a very different and personal battle. But of one thing they are all certain: Adelina has abilities that shouldn’t belong in this world. A vengeful blackness in her heart. And a desire to destroy all who dare to cross her.
It is my turn to use. My turn to hurt

The Strigoi are closing in, and the Academy’s not taking any risks… This year, St. Vlad’s annual holiday ski trip is mandatory.

Mini-Book Review: Opposition by Jennifer L. Armentrout (Lux #5)

[Goodreads Review]

Katy knows the world changed the night the Luxen came.

She can’t believe Daemon welcomed his race or stood by as his kind threatened to obliterate every last human and hybrid on Earth. But the lines between good and bad have blurred, and love has become an emotion that could destroy her—could destroy them all.

Daemon will do anything to save those he loves, even if it means betrayal.

They must team with an unlikely enemy if there is any chance of surviving the invasion. But when it quickly becomes impossible to tell friend from foe, and the world is crumbling around them, they may lose everything— even what they cherish most—to ensure the survival of their friends…and mankind.

War has come to Earth. And no matter the outcome, the future will never be the same for those left standing..

[My Book Review without spoilers]

A stunning conclusion to a brilliant series that is skillfully written so that the reader will feel every emotion experienced by Kat and Daemon. On an “emotional” scale of 1-10, I’d say this book was an 8. It was pretty personal and that made Daemon and Katy more relatable/connectable.

In this book my favorite character is either Daemon or Archer. They are both pretty badass and I totally enjoyed reading the scenes where they kick-butt. But they’ve both got their weaknesses and although Archer seems stronger than Daemon – his ability to read thoughts definitely gives him an advantage. On the other hand, he doesn’t have Daemon’s wicked healing powers at his disposal.

The plot was definitely a 5/5 – mostly because of its unpredictability. Information was dolled out on such a need-to-know basis that even half way through the book I was finding out new things. Daemon’s naughty sense of humor and his sizzling relationship with Katy wrapped things up nicely.
